Huiatt connections, part 1
Until somewhat recently, this is how my Huiatt family looked to me:
Jacob Huiatt b. 1812 SC
wife: Louisa Durrett b. 1837 Kentucky or Illinois
children:
Ulysses Grant Huiatt b. 1868 IA
Charles Hampton Huiatt b. 1870 IA
Edward Oscar Huiatt b. 1874 IA
John J. Huiatt b. 1877 IA
Cora L. Huiatt b. 1879 IA
Elmer Ellsworth Huiatt b. 1881 IA
Nellie M. Huiatt b. 1886 IA
The earliest census that I could find for this family was the 1900 U.S. Census (father Jacob died 1887). Huiatt is a little bit of a tricky name because it is only spelled/transcribed correctly occasionally.
Then... I found this census record: 1885 Webster, Hamilton, Iowa, page 510.
I have not been able to find any of these family members in any 1880 or earlier census.
Now, how is Eliza Huiatt related to Jacob Huiatt? Jacob is much older than his wife Louisa, so I am suspecting that he had a marriage and children previous to Louisa. Still trying to find them in 1880 and earlier censuses... Perhaps Eliza is a daughter to Jacob from a first marriage. That would make William Wiseman Jacob's grandson. Are Ulysses and Charles his children or grandchildren then?

So, this census record introduced a new family member to me. William Wiseman. And his two younger brothers (?) also have the Wiseman name. This is the only record where Ulysses and Charles have the Wiseman name. Still trying to find them in the 1880 or 1870 censuses though.

David Wiseman b. Illinois md. Eliza Huiatt b. Kentucky
son: William Ernest Wiseman b. 1861 Kansas, d. 1943 (buried McGuire's Bend cemetery in Dayton, Iowa)
